Several weeks ago my wife asked if I wanted to sign up for a 5K. And being that it was something I wanted to do I said yes.
And then I didn't make it to the gym for a month. But we were committed to it. We brought out the two jogging strollers, Mrs. Gmibp had the little guy (and the better handling stroller) and I had Nugget. It was kind of brisk, we both wore jackets and the kids were wrapped up in blankets. We got our numbers 182 & 183.
We were near the back of the pack with the walkers and people pushing strollers. The fast runners were up at the front. The count down started and we were off. Very soon I was off, my wife and son drifting further behind us. The run ( we mostly walked) was through Cypress Hills cemetery, where Jackie Robinson, Harry Houdini and Mae West are all buried. Jackie's grave was right at the two mile mark.
I passed a few groups of people. And was on my way. The trail was very hilly and that made it very difficult, especially when Nugget was telling me to run. We did run all the downhills. So after the last hill we passed the three mile mark and could see the finish line. We ran down the road and people clapped as we ran through the finish line ( unofficially 53:52).
It was an amazing feeling. And I can't wait to do another one, but I'll train harder so my legs don't hurt as much afterwards.
