There is a real thin line between cultural awareness and being a little racist. While we were online at the Brooklyn Children's Museum recently my oldest saw lots of decorations and asked if they were Christmas decorations, I told her that the museum is decorated for Chinese New Year. And then she proceeded to ask the African American woman who was working the desk if she was celebrating Kwanza. I jumped in with Chinese New Year, and the young lady didn't seem to notice what she said.
I'm going To chalk it up to cultural awareness and lots of DVR'd Christmas specials ( which are still on heavy rotation) that mention Kwanza and other holidays with no mention of time. Since she was little she was very curious about other cultures and languages. My daughter is not a racist.
