In a lot of ways I am a very selfish and self-centered person. But for the most part I am good, I see the good in people I give them the benefit of the doubt. But right now I am so furious, I cannot think of a time when I have been angrier. No this has nothing to do with the silliness on Mike’s blog.
This has to do with that cowardly-draft dodging-war mongering-lying-alcoholic-homophobic-nepotistic-self rigtheous-bigotted-religious zealot George W Bush showing up for a photo op in Queens tonight, and the way it has negatively affected me. His first stop will be an Italian American Center to get their endorsement. I’m an Italian American; nobody asked me what I think about endorsing hillbilly Jim (no offense meant to former WWF superstar Hillbilly Jim). You’re not a cowboy moron! You are from Connecticut!
His next stop is to watch Treason McGee (aka Dick Cheney) give his speech at the convention, along side some of the other heroes of September eleventh. I cannot deny (nor would I) that the firemen he will be sitting with are heroes-September 11th or not-but he likes to think of himself as a hero like them. So does Guiliani, and unfortunately there is a huge amount of people across this country that think the same way about them. But those two men are not heroes. They were at the right place at the right time. The FDNY, the NYPD and the EMS who ran into those building to pull people out, those are heroes. But I digress. Another thing about the Fire Department, they should have told him to fuck off, New York City was promised 5 billion dollars in aid after 9/11. We have received about 2. Our Bravest and Finest have been working without a contract and without raises since before 9/11. How about helping out those guys. What a fucking gift of gratitude, last summer we have firehouse close down, because of budget cuts. No an extra 3 billion dollars couldn’t have helped out.
So what does this crazy rant have to do with me? I get out of the train at Queens Boulevard; I see a long line of the bus. I see a bunch of cops; I remember Bush was going to be around the area tonight. I am just waiting. And then a few people get off the line, as I move forward I see that Grand Avenue is completely blocked off. I was on the phone with Ani at the time, and start grumbling that I’ll have to walk.
The bus dispatcher guy is walking up and I ask him if the 58 is running, he says yes but I can get it up at 80th street.
80th street! That’s like 9 blocks from here up hill. I have been working all day, I’m fucking tired and now I have to walk 9 blocks uphill out of my way? Fuck. So I start to cross Queens Boulevard, aka the Boulevard of Death. There are police coming out the ying yang.
It’s a good thing that we haven’t had any terror scares like the one they had in DC, because we don’t have the emergency services crews ready to go. They are all spread out, blocking off streets, for a 5-minute photo-op in 5 hours. Or they are blocking off street so delegate filled busses can pass through towards MSG without having to stop at lights or be yelled at. Its nice that out of towners get the royal treatment, but us New Yorkers get shafted again. Well at least we have culture here, unlike everywhere in the so-called red states. And really for that matter most of the blue states as well.
So I walked and walked. I helped out the economy of Queens by buying a bottle of water. The influx of delegates and protestors are staying in Manhattan, because god forbid they head out and see something not in the AAA guide book to New York. Maybe help the economy of the other boroughs. But do what you want; you think you’re entitled. Have your authentic “Australian dinner” at Outback Steakhouse, don’t bother checking out some of the cool Australian restaurants downtown. Enjoy your Olive Garden, because we don’t have a whole section of the city called Little Italy.
Damn I hate being inconvenienced!!!
